While Abroad
Checklist
- Send Us Your Phone Number
When you arrive abroad and secure your (required) cell phone, please email ravery [at] haverford.edu (Rebecca Avery) your abroad contact information so that we can reach you in the event of an emergency. - Share Your Social Media Accounts
Contact the study abroad office to sign up for an Instagram takeover (@fordsabroad). - Connect with Current Fords Abroad
Need a list of the students currently abroad? Please contact the study abroad office. - Pre-register for Courses
If you will be returning to Haverford for the following semester, you are expected to pre-register for courses in the same way you do while on campus. Follow the instructions to pre-register sent to you by the Registrar in April and in November. - Request a Transcript from Your Program
Upon completion of their studies, students should arrange to have a transcript sent to the Director of Study Abroad. It is easiest to order the transcript prior to departure. More on requesting a transcript » - Apply for a Library Carrel
If you are interested in having a library carrel for when you return to Haverford, you must fill out an application for one, available from Magill Circulation Desk, before you leave campus. Demand for carrels is high, so if you don’t apply for one until you return, there will likely not be one available. - Name a Room Draw Proxy
Students studying abroad usually have a proxy (another student, who is currently on campus) who participates in Room Draw in April on their behalf. There are two forms on the Residential Life website: one to name a proxy and the other for a proxy to accept their role. Follow their instructions. - Don't Forget to Vote
All information about absentee ballots and voting in the US elections while abroad can be found on the Federal Voting Assistance Program site.
Will You Need a Notary?
If your signature will be needed for any official or legal documents during your absence, make arrangements for “power of attorney” so someone can act on your behalf. Write out in detail the specific duties that the person you choose will execute and have it notarized. This is great if you are planning to sign a lease for summer housing.
