Hometown News Release
For 2020 Graduates and Their Families
Congratulations on your graduation from Haverford College! The Communications Office encourages all members of the Class of 2020 to share news of this milestone with their hometown newspaper(s) and websites.
To make this easy for you, we have prepared a news release template that you may customize by including details about your personal Haverford experience.
Here's how to write and send a news release:
- Copy the news release template (Google doc) to your Google drive or download as Word or other format (File, Download).
- Personalize the release by replacing the bracketed information with details about your specific experience at Haverford.
Note: Newsrooms are often inundated with emails, so we recommend that you keep your release short and to the point.
- Identify the contact information for your local newspaper(s) and/or websites. Graduation announcements are usually directed to a general newsroom email address and not to specific reporters. To find that address, visit the paper's website, and look for a "Contact Us" page. The newsroom email address should be on that page. If not, search for the editor of the regional edition of the paper and address the release to them.
- Copy your news release directly into the body of an email (do not send as an attachment) addressed to your local paper. Use the subject line “Local Resident Graduates from Haverford College.”
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Rebecca Raber, Director of News and Social Media.
