CCPA INTERN
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
This is a one-year appointment from Fall 2024 – Spring 2025
The mission of the student employment program is to provide students with meaningful work experiences that build practical skills particular to a certain function and general skills such as punctuality, discipline, honesty, thoroughness, teamwork, and problem-solving. Building these employment skills works in partnership with the academic program which forwards students’ intellectual development in the liberal arts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work approximately 8 hours per week at the CCPA (located in Stokes 300). Some evening hours may be required.
- Provide consistent administrative support for the HC-CCPA Google group email account. Reply to students, faculty/staff, and employers utilizing Google templates when necessary
- Assist in answering the phone, and providing information to students, alumni, and families who stop by or call the Center
- Post and approve events, internships, and full-time jobs to Handshake, the CCPA’s online career platform
- Create and manage appointment schedules in Handshake
- Provide constructive written feedback, general information, and advice on resume and cover letter preparation in 1:1 counseling sessions
- Provide information and advice to students on how to use career resources for researching career fields
- Serve as an advisory group for CCPA to more effectively support students’ career development and professional identity, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
Interns will have additional ongoing projects or other tasks as assigned. The ongoing projects may include:
- Social Media and Publicity
- Assist the Assistant Director of Career Advising and Engagement with creating graphics and social media posts; experience with Canva, Instagram, and graphic design preferred
- Create and/or star in Short form videos to promote CCPA resources; experience using TikTok/ Instagram reels preferred
- Employer Relations
- Assist the Director of External Partnerships and Career Engagement in organizing and attending CCPA recruiting events (information sessions, career fairs, meetups, and more)
- Conduct targeted marketing outreach for events and jobs via Handshake
- Pre-Professional Advising
- Assist the Director of Pre-Professional Advising with relevant data collection and analysis of admissions-related statistics, using internal and external data sources
- Organize events and programs (e.g., alumni panels, application information sessions) for students interested in law and health-related graduate programs with the Director of Pre-Professional Advising
- Review thoroughly the pre-law and pre-health advising websites, while also generating new ideas for content helpful to students
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Host sessions with student affinity groups in the cultural centers, residence halls, and dining center
- Assist in collaborative outreach to affinity group leaders
QUALIFICATIONS
- Sophomore, junior, or senior as of Fall 2024
- Previous office experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect easily with students, faculty, staff, alumni & employers
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak on the phone and write professionally
- Strong organizational and research skills and a willingness and eagerness to learn new skills
- Ability to work independently and professionally in an office environment
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks
- Social media, video, and experience with Canva (or a similar platform) are a plus
TRAINING, TIME COMMITMENT, AND OFFICE POLICIES
- Work 8 hours per week, at least 6-7 hours in the CCPA office in Stokes 300. Some evening hours may be required.
- Participate and complete mandatory training sessions (Dates to be finalized)
- Complete post-training homework and other training, as assigned
- Attend follow-up training with all the CCPA interns, dates to be determined
- Attend mandatory weekly supervisory meetings as scheduled, with times to be determined
