My name is Mohanish Bajaj, and I am a rising junior majoring in Math and Economics. This summer, I have been fortunate enough to secure an internship at Econsult Solutions, Inc. (ESI), a leading economic consulting firm. ESI specializes in providing consulting services in areas such as real estate, litigation, public infrastructure, and transportation to businesses and policymakers. As someone who has always been captivated by the intersection of mathematics and economics, this internship at ESI presents an opportunity for me to explore and delve deeper into this dynamic relationship.
Within the internship, my current role is that of a Research Assistant (RA). As an RA, my primary responsibility revolves around creating and cleaning economic data, as well as conducting multivariate and regression analyses using tools like Excel and R. These analyses are conducted for a range of projects and clients. Additionally, a significant portion of my time is dedicated to conducting thorough research on tasks assigned by my supervisors and engaging with clients to gain a comprehensive understanding of their unique requirements. One aspect that truly excites me about this internship, and sets it apart from others, is the ability to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom knowledge and real-world applications. Through this experience, I am able to directly apply the concepts and theories I have learned in my coursework, further enhancing my understanding.
Furthermore, this internship provides me with an invaluable opportunity to learn from distinguished scholars in the field. Collaborating with these experts has been an incredibly enriching experience, one that I will forever cherish. In addition to working with accomplished professionals, interacting with clients has proven to be an invaluable skill that I am honing throughout this internship. Effectively navigating conversations and extracting essential information from clients has heightened my appreciation for client interactions and has allowed me to tailor my work and research to their specific needs.
One of the standout projects I have been involved in centers around the analysis of employee and company data from over 50 different companies. The objective of this analysis is to provide our client with comprehensive insights into the key demographics that are attracted to their workspace. To accomplish this, I have conducted extensive research and performed rigorous data analysis using Excel. The culmination of this effort was a detailed report that I prepared and subsequently presented to my supervisors. Additionally, I have been entrusted with various other tasks, such as writing summary blogs about the companies ESI collaborates with, proofreading important documents, and undertaking data cleaning assignments.
This internship experience has solidified my passion for data analysis and client interactions. The ability to unearth meaningful insights from complex data sets and the opportunity to work closely with clients have been immensely rewarding.
