Recognizing the one-year anniversary of the strike for racial equity
Details
President Wendy Raymond shared the following message with the Haverford community.
Dear students, staff, faculty, and alumni,
October 29th marks the one-year anniversary of the start of the student-led strike for racial equity here at Haverford. This important and impactful event promoted awareness and prompted essential and overdue change in the way the College achieves racial equity in the community. I encourage each of us to learn more about the strike in a dedicated archive maintained by the Libraries and track the status of our antiracism commitments here.
Much work remains, some of which is articulated in our developing strategic plan as a key area of “structural change toward equity and inclusion.” I realize that many individuals and groups are engaged in daily work and conversations that are part of our ongoing efforts centered on antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion. I acknowledge the labor invested, with gratitude.
Our ongoing work also involves healing and reconciliation. Many among us are in these processes, and I am grateful for the respect and concern you offer yourselves and we offer one another.
I hope you will choose to complete a confidential survey through which any student, alum, staff, or faculty member may suggest opportunities for reflection, healing, and reconciliation. This is a continuation of a multifaceted commitment to antiracism and racial equity.
Thank you for being a valued member of Haverford College. I join you in a learning community called together by Haverford’s foundational values, and held together by the commitments we make to ourselves and one another.
Sincerely,
Wendy Raymond
