Womb Wars!! Abortion, The State, and Reproductive Decision Making During China's Cultural Revolution
Details
The departments of History and East Asian Languages and Cultures presents a talk by one of our own, Professor Sarah Mellors '09.
VCAM SCREENING ROOM,
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 30TH , 4:15—6:00
How contraceptive and abortion practices during two of modern China’s most dynamic periods, the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) and the Sent-Down Youth Movement (1968-1980) ironically created unprecedented opportunities for sex among individuals with limited access to prophylactics, thereby paving the way for a reliance on abortion as a primary tool for family planning.
One of our earliest East Asian Studies majors, Sarah Mellors received her PhD in History at UC Irvine in 2018 and is now Assistant Professor of History at Missouri State University.
Sarah will meet with students interested in research and graduate school in the fields of History and East Asian studies from 12:00 to 1:00 on Monday, September 30th, in the Dining Center 110, Pendle Hill Room. Feel free to bring your lunch.
