The student worker in the Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education collaborated with Haverford College Libraries to create “These Are My Roots: A Journey Through Co-Education at Haverford,” an exhibit focused on the history of women, particularly women of color, at Haverford.
The mission of The Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education (GRASE) is to cultivate a transformational space and community by providing advocacy, education, programs, and resources on gender and sexuality.
Shared Values
Community Voice & Action: We center and amplify the voices, lived experiences, and leadership of Black and Brown Transgender, Non-binary, Gender Nonconforming, Queer, femme- and women-identified students, staff, and faculty. We build sustainable and affirming student-centered spaces and programs.
Intersectionality: We acknowledge the systemic barriers that have historically, and continue to, marginalize, exclude, and erase communities based on gender identity and sexual orientation, and particularly those at the intersection of race, immigration status, disability, caste, class, religion and spirituality, and other identities. We recognize that striving for an equitable campus starts with intersectionality as the lens through which we develop and implement our programs.
Education: We believe in creating a campus community for collective liberation through historical and social analysis of oppressive systems, critical discourse of anti-racism, and principles of justice, strength-based model, and trauma-informed framework.
Social Justice: We aim to catalyze social and institutional change at multiple levels that affirms, nurtures, and celebrates the victories of Queer and Trans communities, particularly Black and Brown Trans revolutionaries who mobilized and led the movement on LGBTQIA+ justice.
Empowerment: We mobilize sense of power and agency for all students, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation, to live authentically as well as engage knowledgeably and compassionately with regards to gender and sexuality.
The Center for Gender Resources and Sexual Education embraces the values and aspirations of Haverford’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Team which provides a strong foundation for our mission, programs, and outreach.
