The Department of Music and Network For New Music celebrate Earth Day with a performance of A Murmur in the Trees in honor of the eminent bassist Robert Black.
On Sunday, April 21 at 2 PM, Network for New Music, the Department of Music, and the Arboretum present Eve Belgarian’s A Murmur in the Trees, an outdoor concert in celebration of Earth Day.
This 30-minute long work for 24 solo double bassists playing in the woods was written for the late bassist Robert Black, a beloved champion of contemporary music. Based on the naturally occurring etchings on a piece of birch bark, the work transmutes these marks of growth and change into a choreographed atmosphere of quiet, slowly changing harmonies. During the performance, the audience wanders through the players, the trees, and the music—each individual's journey creating a different path through the work.
This concert will take place on the Nature Trail at Haverford College. All are welcome. Parking is available in the Visitors' and South parking lots. Rain location will be the Michael Jaharis Recital Hall.
