Black-Led Nonprofit Spotlight
Although Black History month is drawing to a close, there are many ways to celebrate Black history all year long. Here are just some of the many Black-led nonprofits in the US that you should keep on your radar. If you’re interested in getting involved with the work they do, some of these organizations are hiring!
Philadelphia-Based Nonprofits
POWER

POWER is an interfaith nonprofit committed to racial, economic, and climate justice. Their past campaigns include a 2020 Voter Engagement Program, Climate Justice Campaign, and Raise the Wage Campaign.
They are currently seeking a Communications Director and two Community Organizers.
Mill Creek Farm

Mill Creek Farm, located in West Philadelphia, serves to educate the community about environmental concerns while also providing affordable, chemical-free produce via their weekly Saturday markets.
They are currently seeking a full-time, seasonal Lead Farmer.
Urban Creators

As an agricultural cooperative, Urban Creators transform abandoned spaces in Philadelphia into spaces of urban agriculture, education, and artistic expression. Their neighborhood creative commons, Life Do Grow, features an urban farm, public park, outdoor classroom, and community marketplace. Additionally, their youth leadership program allows young people to engage in work at the farm and participate in workshops.

Movement Alliance Project

Previously known as the Media Mobilizing Project, the Movement Alliance Project documents and shares stories to connect social movement leaders across Philadelphia and the country. They have led campaigns to stop gentrification and displacement and improve media literacy, just to name a few.

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

CBCF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research and educational institute specifically focused on advancing Black Americans by “developing leaders, informing policy, and educating the public” (CBCF.org).
The CBCF Congressional Summer Internship Program is available to current college students and recent graduates to learn more about the policy-making progress. Learn more on Handshake.

Color of Change

Color of Change is an online racial justice organization to strengthen and amplify the voices of Black Americans. They have dozens of campaigns and petitions that visitors can sign right now, including the Pass the Algorithmic Accountability Act.
