Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2589 This is a topics course. Course content varies.; Current topic description: What is sexology and how does it relate to sexual health? Are eugenic experiments a thing of the past or are genetics and biotechnology recasting eugenics? This seminar seeks to answer such questions and reveals the historical significance of sexology particularly in conjunction with issues surrounding birth control, reproductive agency, eugenics, sex education, and the expression of non-heteronormative sexual identities. The course shows how the field of sexology was deployed to pathologize sexuality and legitimize eugenic experiments. However, it also demonstrates how sexology provided refuge, agency as well as identity to innumerable queer and trans individuals both in the Euro-American context and the Global South.
