Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2249 This course offers a panoramic view of the building of Francoism as an ideology over the longest authoritarian regime in Western society during the 20th century (1939-1975). Through the study of its cultural, artistic, and mediatic expressions, as well as other national institutions such as education and religion, this course addresses the connections between cultural representations and the social, political, and economic experiences lived in Spain during that period. These representations will consist mainly of those produced during the Franco regime with comparisons to the contemporary era. Some of the issues we will focus on are the Spanish Civil War, international isolation and autarky, repression and exile, and censorship as a strategy of Francoist ideology, among many others.
