Topics vary.; Current topic description: A reading and research-based seminar on the intellectual and cultural history of medieval magic, including natural and demonic magic, astral science, alchemy, and other forms of "the occult sciences." Primary sources will be from a variety of genres, including visual culture, and secondary sources will include significant works in philosophy, religious studies, and medieval historiography. Prerequisite: at least one course in medieval history, or the permission of the instructor.
