Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2908 This is a topics course. Course content varies.; Current topic description: Poetry has the capacity to understand things like soils, waters, seeds, and bodies as archives. Through poems, we are able to illuminate inventories of worlds; poems can recover lost histories as well as preserve endangered language, objects, and ways of life. In this advanced environmental studies seminar, we will read and write poems with an attention to the archival possibilities of poetry in this moment of planetary crisis and reconfiguration. You will engage in a semester-long creative project that works closely with one or more archives, producing an interlinked set of poems that recovers, preserves, and/or reconfigures your chosen material. Our task in this course is not only to learn how to locate and read vulnerable archives, but also to learn how to write with them in mind. Approach: Course does not meet an Approach; Enrollment Cap: 12 |
