Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2250 This course provides an overview of the field of Cognitive Psychology, the branch of psychology that studies how we think. Over the semester we will survey classic and contemporary theory and findings on a wide range of mental processes that we use every day – from attention and memory to language and problem solving – and our goal will be to understand how the human mind works! Prerequisite: PSYC B105 or H100 (Introductory Psychology), or instructor's permission.; Welcome to Human Cognition! Our goal is to understand how the mind works! Over the semester we seek to understand questions such as "How do we make sense of all the information that we are constantly being bombarding with? How do we sort through all of this input and choose what to attend to or ignore? How do we organize and remember the information we do attend to? How do we use what we know to make guesses about what we don’t know? We will use one textbook and supplemental readings uploaded to the course Moodle page. Assessment will consist of weekly low-stakes mastery activities to ensure that students are keeping up with the material, three exams, and class/collaborative participation. Participation in weekly Zoom sessions (Mon/Thur 11:10-12:30 pm ET) is required. For more information or to see a draft of the syllabus, please email me (athapar@brynmawr.edu).
