Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2179 An investigation of the historical and philosophical ideas of the classical, with particular attention to the Italian Renaissance and the continuance of its formulations throughout the Westernized world.; This course discussed the idea of the classical as history and asa cultural category, from the Parthenon to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. The evolution of the forms of classical art will be discussed from the time of the Renaissance in Italy to the art and architecture of France and England and then the United States where so much of the cultural and political language has been based on the traditions of Greece and Rome. Approach: Critical Interpretation (CI), Inquiry into the Past (IP), Writing Intensive; Haverford: A: Meaning, Interpretation (Texts) (A), Humanities (HU) Enrollment Cap: 15; If the course exceeds the enrollment cap the following criteria will be used for the lottery: Major/Minor/Concentration; Permission of Instructor; On line lectures, two a week, with one additional class each week a discussion with a Teaching Assistant.
