Each class will include both full class groups and multiple, smaller interactive break-out groups. Some time may be allocated for individual work. Video participation will be required. There will be frequent use of multimedia and varied means of engagement. During the second half of the course we will host guest speakers who will share their expertise and personal experiences in the field. Speakers include, amongst others, a parent of student with special needs, a specialized school administrator and a child and adolescent psychiatrist. In preparation for the synchronous sessions, students will complete readings from the required class books in addition to readings posted on Moodle. Weekly, written components in preparation for the class discussions will be required. Other graded assignments include ongoing discussion board participation, a written personal learning profile, a book review presentation with a written component, and a final creative summative assessment. In addition, students will participate in a remote weekly field placement or internship and will be required to submit at least six reflections linking their experiences in the field to course content. I am hoping that together, with your input and feedback about what is working and what needs to adapt, we can make this semester a meaningful online learning experience. |
