Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2833 Employing a multi-disciplinary feminist lens, this class examines womens and LGBTQ+ rights within the United Nations system, with a primary focus on human rights, international develop-ment, and peace & security. This course seeks to expose students to the complex issues - social, political, economic, and legal - that characterize womens and LGBTQ+ rights around the globe. The theoretical foundations are in the area of gender mainstreaming, which is the practice of inte-grating a gender equality perspective across all governing systems including but not limited to policy development, political representation, institutional regulations, program building, and budgeting. Students will be asked to conduct research on womens and LGBTQ+ rights within a country of their choice and to present their findings to class participants. The course will provide students with an introduction to and assistance in utilizing the web as a tool for conducting research on womens and LGBTQ+ rights. Prerequisite: Introductory Political Science Course or Instructor's permission. Approach: Course does not meet an Approach; Enrollment cap: 25 If the course exceeds the enrollment cap the following criteria will be used: POLS majors (by class year, senior then junior), then Gender & Sexuality Studies minors (by class, senior then junior) |
