"The Doug" has topped out.

On Friday, Feb. 18, the Douglas B. Gardner Integrated Athletic Center hit a major milestone with its "Topping Out" ceremony at noon. The final, uppermost beam was put into place — a beam signed during the previous week by all who cared to affix their name in posterity. "The Doug," as it has come to be called, is due to open for use early next winter.

The 100,000-square-foot building is named for Douglas B. Gardner '83, who died in the 9/11 tragedy.

The Strawbridge Observatory at Haverford College houses 12-inch and 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes which are actively used by students in Haverford astronomy classes.
