Where They’re Headed: Jared Heller ’23

The history major has set his sights on a career as a business analyst at McKinsey & Company, and beyond.

Jared Heller ‘23 received a bachelor of arts in history and a minor in East Asian languages and cultures during his time at Haverford College. Now, post-graduation, he begins his career as a business analyst at McKinsey & Company, with future aspirations in private equity or even starting his own company.

Several standout courses left an impact on Heller’s academic journey. “Philosophy and Global Wisdom” with Ashok Gangadean was one of his favorites, providing him with a diverse skill set through reading, writing, and engaging in class conversations. “Roman Revolutions” with Bret Mulligan was another enriching course, exercising various academic muscles–”[t]hat’s something that you have to be able to bring to the workplace,” Heller adds.

A student-athlete on the Men’s Lacrosse team, he found mentorship and guidance from his teammates, such as Kyle Buseck ‘20, who now works in private equity. A senior when Heller was a freshman, “[Buseck] kind of showed me through how finance recruiting works, and was really helpful to me throughout the process–looking at my resumé, helping me prepare for interviews, things like that. And that’s something that I’ve put a lot of effort trying to pass into sort of the kids below me.” says Heller.

Heller’s involvement in the student investment portfolio and finance initiative as the president further shaped his plans. Starting as a mentee and growing into a leadership position, he learned to adapt and lead effectively to benefit his community.  As he looks towards the coming years, Heller envisions both personal and professional milestones. While the specifics remain uncertain, he is eager to engage with alumni to explore various opportunities.

For his fellow Fords, Heller hopes they will embrace being proactive in pursuing their interests. He believes that seeking guidance and putting oneself out there can be the key to achieving their goals and making the most of their post-graduation journey.
