Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2645 Since 1949, Chinese state policies have engendered diverse modes of resistance, and today, popular uprisings continue to challenge assumptions about passivity under authoritarianism. This course reads contemporary Chinese history through the lens of social protest. Major events we will examine include: contestations of rule in the early Peoples Republic; the Cultural Revolution; the 1989 protests in Tiananmen Square; labor and rural resistance; the 2019-2020 demonstrations in Hong Kong; and most recently, the "A4 Revolution."; Crosslisted: EALC.; Enrollment Limit: 25.00 Social Science, B: Analysis of the Social World (; Hav: SO, B) |
