VCAM Fall 2020 COVID-19 Programs & Policies
Details
The following new policies and procedures are now in effect for fall 2020 to promote the safety of students, staff, and faculty using and working in VCAM.
VCAM will reopen on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020. The building will be accessible via OneCard Monday through Sunday, 8AM - 12AM. We expect all community members entering the building to adhere to campus safety guidelines, including wearing masks, keeping appropriate physical distance, and washing your hands regularly. Furniture layout and signage in the building offer more specific guidance.
Spaces
In order to maintain socially distant spacing for classes and public use, no furniture in VCAM should be moved whether in classrooms, casual corners, or presentation spaces. This includes the furniture in the VCAM Presentation Lounge, VCAM 102 Seminar Room, and VCAM 201 Object Study/Media Production Classroom.
The VCAM Community Kitchen, Hurford Center office and VCAM Screening Room will be closed for the fall 2020 semester. Like VCAM, the Hurford Center will be offering an array of virtual opportunities for students this fall—learn more at haverford.edu/hcah. Thanks for bearing with us—we hope we can reopen these spaces for campus use during the spring 2021 semester.
The Maker Arts Space will be closed for non-curricular usage for the fall 2020 semester but will still function as a fabrication lab offering a series of remote workshops and a course. There will be no Open Studio Hours in the fall. Keep an eye out for the weekly virtual workshops Wednesdays at 4:15PM, as well as a .5 credit class being offered remotely during the second half of the fall semester, ICPR/VIST H145E “Some Assembly Required: Designing Objects of Play,” taught by Kent Watson, VCAM Maker Arts Space Technician & Coordinator. Info: dwatson1 [at] haverford.edu.
The VCAM Film/Media Edit Lab will have four available computers for students to use, marked with a piece of blue tape in front of them. We will offer further information if online reservations become necessary.
VCAM Equipment Checkout has transitioned to a reservation only system for the semester. Patrons will be expected to log in to the equipment site (haverfordmedia.getconnect2.com for general audio visual gear, and haverfordproduction.getconnect2.com for gear that has already been assigned to specific production courses) and make their reservation for gear at least 24 hours in advance of when they expect to pick up equipment. For the fall semester, Equipment Checkout hours will be Monday through Friday 10AM - 5PM. This is subject to change depending on the needs of the campus. Equipment pickup and drop off will occur at marked locations that will be indicated by signs in the building.
Food and Drink
No food is allowed in VCAM for the fall 2020 semester. The VCAM Founders Green terrace area is set up with socially distanced chairs and tables where students may eat. Please do not move the tables or chairs. Students may bring drinks in closed containers into VCAM, but we strongly encourage students to use straws to minimize mask removal. In keeping with College safety policies, no food or beverages can be consumed in classrooms during class time.
Support
In general, most of the building’s staff will be working remotely. For classroom technology issues, notify the Haverford IITS Prodesk at prodesk [at] haverford.edu / 610-896-1480. Please contact VCAM Operations Manager James Weissinger at jweissin [at] haverford.edu or VCAM Director Laura McGrane at lmcgrane [at] haverford.edu with any other questions or suggestions.
Thanks for bearing with us as we enter this challenging semester. We’ll update you with any further changes.
Our best,
James Weissinger & Laura McGrane
