Richard Kent Evans is Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion at Haverford College. He is the author of MOVE: An American Religion (Oxford University Press, 2020), and is now writing an intellectual and cultural history of "religious madness," a cluter of psychiatric diagnoses premised on the idea that some forms of religious experience had the potential to be contagious forms of insanity. He received his PhD in North American Religions from Temple University in 2018.
