Matthew McKeever is Professor of Sociology and Department Chair. Before coming to Haverford he was at Mount Holyoke College, teaching in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and serving in various administrative positions. He has also taught at Rice University, University of Houston, University of Kentucky, and Yale University. He received his Ph.D. from UCLA, and his B.A. from Haverford.
Matthew's research focuses on the structure of social inequality within a variety of institutional, cultural, and regional contexts, from the U.S. and Europe to South Africa and Asia. Blending quantitative and thematic methods, this work examines different theories regarding the distribution of education, occupation, and income, and how processes that determine the distribution of these resources vary regionally. His portfolio of courses reflect these interests across a range of subjects: educational inequality, immigration, poverty, and social change.
