Haverford College Residence Halls will close for all non-graduating students on Saturday, May 18th at 6pm and Sunday, May 19th at 6pm for graduating seniors.
2019 Summer Closing Notice
Closing of the Residence Halls:
Saturday, May 18:
10:00am – Haverford College Commencement
2:00pm – Bryn Mawr College Commencement
6:00pm – The deadline for undergraduate students to be moved out of the residence halls is 6:00pm, Saturday, May 18. Students are not allowed to move out during the Commencement ceremony. It is College policy that cars may not be driven across the lawns/grounds during move-out. Violation of this regulation will result in a fine or possible towing of your vehicle.
* The only exceptions, with an extension until 3:00pm, Sunday, May 20, are for those on the pre-approved list of commencement ushers and students participating in the Ethical Leadership Institute.
Sunday, May 19:
3:00pm – The deadline for graduating seniors to be moved out of the residence halls is 3:00pm, Sunday, May 19.
Moving Out of the Residence Halls:
- Clean and remove all personal belongings and trash from your room, suite, and/or apartment. Dumpster locations include:
- Campus Center, HCA
- Return all college-issued dorm furniture to your room.
- Close and lock all windows and doors.
Reducing Waste and Donating Unwanted Items (a join project from CER and CSSR)
- What are we collecting?
- For retention and distribution to new students in the Fall (campus re-use program):
- Mini-fridges (properly defrosted), drying racks, mirrors, fans, clothes hangers, canned goods (to be donated to the OMA Food Pantry), textbooks (to be re-used through the OAR)
- For GreenDrop:
- Clothing, shoes, blankets, TVs, kitchenware, lamps, electronics, and toys
- For retention and distribution to new students in the Fall (campus re-use program):
- How can you help?
- If you would like to donate to GreenDrop or our campus re-use program, please bring your items to Facilities Management when you drop off your room key. Items should be placed under the overhand along the building. If the gate is closed, please place the items along the gate or in the dump truck that will be parked there for donations.
- Mini-fridges may also be bought directly to the back of Jones Hall (closest to the road)
- Textbooks may also be dropped off in the box in the Campus Center near the COOP, or in the OAR
- Canned goods and other non-perishable items may be brought directly to the MCC
- From May 8-17, there will be book drop-off boxes provided by the OAR. There will be one box in the OAR and one in the Coop.
- Mini fridges you no longer want can be left in Jones basement (or at Facilities if that is easier for you).
- Everything else can and should be brought to Facilities.
- If you have a large or heavy item that you are unable to bring to Facilities yourself, please fill out this form to request a pickup.
- If you are free to volunteer to help drive items to Facilities, please fill out this volunteer form.
- There will be a Senior Yard Sale on Thursday, May 16th, from 11 AM to 3 PM outside on both HCA Green and Lloyd Green. Only seniors will be selling items, but everyone is encouraged to stop by!
Room Inspection & Fines:
- All residence halls will be inspected. Students will be fined for cleaning of excessively dirty bedrooms, apartments, suites, and/or common rooms, trash removal, and damages. Please see the Residential Life Handbook for more information.
Opening of the Residence Halls – Fall 2019:
- The residence halls will officially open for returning students at 10:00am, Sunday, September 1, 2019.
- Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
Health Services:
- By 2:00 pm, Friday, May 17, please pick up medications and return all loaned items. Medications will not be returned by mail.
- Health services will close at 3:00 pm, Friday, May 17. Health Services will re-open for limited summer coverage on June 3rd. Students can call 610-896-1089 for assistance with administrative questions (records release, billing questions, etc.) and to speak with the nurse for triage support. The office staff can also assist with clinical appointments with our cooperating physicians at Bryn Mawr Family Practice.
- In the event of an emergency, please call Campus Safety at 610-896-1111.
- If you wish to see a Health Provider after hours, please click here for a map of local Urgent Cares. Note: HC Health Services is not in a position to endorse certain providers, but we strongly encourage you to call in advance to make sure they accept your insurance. Please be in touch if you have any questions.
Dining Services:
- Haverford first-years, sophomores, and juniors – The last meal on Haverford’s meal plan is lunch on Friday, May 17 until 2pm.
- Haverford seniors – The last meal will be Commencement brunch on Sunday, May 19 from 8:00am-11:00am.
Transportation:
- Last regular run will be on Friday, May 17.
- Blue Bus: 6:20 p.m. from Haverford to Bryn Mawr
- Swarthmore Van: 4:50 p.m. from Swarthmore to Bryn Mawr
- SC Van: 5:50 p.m. from Swarthmore to Haverford, 6:20 p.m. from Swarthmore to BMC

At BMC, buses will stop at Goodhart Hall. At Haverford, buses will stop at both Stokes Bay and Harris Road (by Jones Hall).
Room Key Return:
- The deadline to return room keys without charges is 4:00pm, Monday, May 20. Room keys are to be returned to the Facilities Management Office. If you return your key after hours, please place your key in an envelope with your name and drop it in the mail slot located beside the front door of the Facilities Management Office.

Central Services:
- Central Services will maintain a regular schedule through Friday, May 17. For more information about summer mail services please visit: https://www.haverford.edu/central-services/mail-center/summer-mail.
- Mail will be placed in your mail boxes through Commencement. During the summer, all first-class mail will be automatically forwarded to your permanent address.
- If you are living at HCA over the summer, we will automatically leave your current mailbox open and will not forward any mail. If you are not living at HCA over the summer, and would like to continue receiving mail, email hc-centralservices@haverford.edu and we will leave your current mailbox open. If you want mail forwarded to a summer address please visit https://www.haverford.edu/central-services/mail-center/summer-mail for more information.
The Coop:
- The Coop will close at 2:30pm on Friday, May 17. It will re-open Monday, May 20 with summer hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-2:00pm.
Bookstore:
- The bookstore will remain open until 5:00pm, Friday, May 17. On Saturday, May 18, Commencement Day, it will be open from 8:30am – 9:30am and 12:00pm – 2:00pm. On Sunday, May 19, it will be open from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Summer hours will be Monday-Friday, 10:00am – 4:00pm.
