Haverford College seeks to hire a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, to begin in the Fall semester of 2017. This is a two-year position with the possibility of renewal for a third year. The position will be renewed annually depending on staffing needs, resources, and positive evaluations.
Haverford College is a small, selective, liberal arts college located 10 miles outside of the center of Philadelphia and on a regional train line. The Computer Science Department offers academic programs for majors and minors at the undergraduate level, graduating 16 - 20 majors per year. Responsibilities will include teaching courses and corresponding labs or discussion sections, and potentially advising undergraduate senior thesis research. The full teaching assignment is five course credits per year, which is an effective load of 2-2 or lower when labs and thesis advising are taken into account. Preference will be given to candidates whose research areas broaden the expertise in the department, but candidates in all areas of Computer Science are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science (A.B.D. considered for appointment at the Instructor level) and excellent teaching skills and experience, with the ability to teach courses from the introductory to the advanced undergraduate levels. We especially seek candidates with interest and capacity to teach and retain a broadly diverse student body including, but not limited to, women and minorities, persons with disabilities, and other groups underrepresented in Computer Science.
The appointment officially begins July 1, 2017; applications that are complete by March 31, 2017 will be given full consideration.
