March Haverford House Update from Feven Gezahegn '19
March, like for most people, has been a difficult month for us here at Haverford House. We all started working from home soon into the start of the month and are adjusting to life under these difficult times. Gabe traveled to Washington at the beginning of the month to attend the 2020 National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference. Some of us were able to work with New Sanctuary Movement and Puentes de Salud to help Suyapa Reyes move into her new house. We rented a U-Haul truck and had Gabe drive the narrow streets of South Philly. Barring some technical issues, we were able to successfully pick up and drop off all the items to their new home.
Since the stay at home order, we have all done our best to continue to do our work with our organizations. We have had weekly check-ins with Janice virtually, and also had some members of the house attend one of the coffee breaks hosted by CPGC on Fridays.
Although things have been hard, I am grateful that I get to continue to be a part of Haverford House with my housemates. I appreciate the several communal meals, movie nights, and overall community we have been able to create and sustain.
