Willy Aguilar Montenegro ‘25
Major: Political ScienceHometown: Los Angeles, CA
Willy (he/him) is a political science major raised in Los Angeles, California. According to his parents, his interest in political science has coursed through him since he was young; anecdotes of him belting campaign songs on public buses in his birth country of El Salvador fill the familial canon. If he is not watching YouTube videos analyzing the British vlogger invasion of the early 2010’s, he is either working at the President’s Office, interning at the Admissions Office, serving as a teaching assistant in the political science department, or whining to his friends about the East Coast’s lack of In-N-Out. Willy is talkative to a fault, both in English and in Spanish, the latter his native tongue, so be prepared to converse vigorously both inside and outside of appointments. Willy is studying abroad in spring 2024.

If they have free time, they enjoy unwinding with friends, having a nice, cool boba drink, and chatting away about all kinds of random topics. They're excited to meet with students and learn how their minds work (not just because they're a neuroscience major) and be a helping hand during the writing process!

Bailey will always take an opportunity to talk about her pets (Kai, Morty, and Baby G), Bo Burnham, or Renaissance poetry. She has experience with theoretical English texts and with a range of poetry, political theory, philosophy, and gender and sexuality studies. Sakina Gulamhusein ‘25
Major: Neuroscience and Environmental StudiesHometown: Queens, NY
Sakina (she/her) was born in North Carolina and moved when she was 10. Although she misses the fries from Bojangles, she has since shed her Southern roots and is now a proud New Yorker. She is majoring in neuroscience and Environmental Studies, mostly because she is indecisive. You can find her gardening (and occasionally teaching P.E.) at the Haverfarm, processing materials at the Quaker and Special Collections, restocking snacks at the OAR, or taking care of mice and rats on the fifth floor of Sharpless (it’s a real job, I promise). Sakina is also a Chesick Scholar and a Reproductive Health Peer Mentor. If you ask her what she’s doing in a couple of months, the answer may be completely different. Although writing can be a cumbersome process for Sakina, she loves editing. It’s fun reading unfamiliar content and dissecting students’ essays; however, for Sakina, brainstorming ideas with students and having them leave a tutoring session more confident is what makes the job worth it. In her downtime, she will be sleeping for an ungodly amount of time or will lay in bed scrolling through Webtoons or Instagram Reels. On the rare occasions that she has energy, she enjoys crocheting, painting, getting lost in the city, reading, and FaceTiming her pet sun conure (aka her daughter), Pumpkin. She plans to study abroad in New Zealand or Denmark during spring semester 2024.

In addition to working at the Writing Center, she is a teacher at a nonprofit and a volunteer submissions reader for a local publisher. After college, Bela hopes to either teach or edit full-time and then, once she’s on her feet, make her living writing novels, so bring her your creative works!

Feel free to bring assignments in any discipline and share your wonderful ideas with Nicole.
Jesse Lim ‘26
Major: BiologyConcentration: Biochemistry
Hometown: Seongnam, Korea
Jesse (he/him) has a penchant for anything on tissue engineering, Bildungsroman novels, and rotund birds. Having spent most of his time in the raven-littered international districts of Songdo, he is fluent in Korean and hopes to hone his Japanese. Outside the Writing Center, Jesse volunteers for the American Cancer Society and works for the Student's Council as the Officer of Academics. His free time (if any) is spent filling the void that is his sketchbook at Swarthmore's Kitao Gallery, hoarding free teabags from colloquia across the tri-co, listening to AURORA, and watching questionable shows with friends on a cramped bed. Be it lab reports or literary analyses, Jesse is more than guilty of showing half-baked (or even blank) drafts to his tutors. He is happy to rant/discuss the writing process with whatever you have.

Petra Mengistu '24
Major: PhysicsMinor: Psychology
Hometown: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Petra (she/her) spent most of her childhood in different Middle Eastern countries until settling in her native country, Ethiopia. In her free time, she enjoys binge-watching sitcoms, hopping on long train rides, baking, and wearing away her friend's guitar strings in futile attempts to teach herself how to play. While she cherishes her experiences with astrophysics, chemistry, psychology, and sociology, she never ceases to be amazed at how her writing process subtly shifts across different disciplines. Much like the sometimes annoyingly wide variety of her academic interests, her thoughts can tend to be scattered and she sympathizes with the internal turmoil of composing coherent pieces of writing. If you find yourself doubting whether your scattered thoughts can develop into anything worthwhile, she hopes to help you ground your amazing ideas into a tangible piece of writing. Petra is excited to work with you on your writing in English or Amharic and learn more about your wonderfully unique writing style!

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Maia is happy to regale you with odd facts about Music City but wants you to know that she does not like country music (except for Johnny Cash). When she's not writing for The Consensus or playing badminton, Maia enjoys reading (hence her residency in Lit House), knitting, watching clips of SNL, and melting chocolate chips late at night so she can make chocolate-covered strawberries. Maia is excited (and nervous) to study abroad in the spring and hopefully level up her proficient-ish Spanish. As someone who had a writing partner her first year, Maia knows what it's like to be frustrated or confused with an essay/assignment and is happy to help you work through things. She will be abroad in Madrid, Spain in spring 2024.

When she finds the motivation to turn off one of the five shows she binges obsessively, she’s a big fan of walks on the Nature Trail and lifting at the GIAC (admittedly, she still watches Everybody Hates Chris on the treadmill.)
