Emily Starace ’13 wins a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship.
The Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program places recent college graduates and young professionals as English teaching assistants in primary and secondary schools or universities overseas - improving foreign students’ English language abilities and knowledge of the United States while increasing the U.S. student's own language skills and knowledge of the host country.
Emily is graduating from Haverford with a double major in Linguistics and German. She will be in Germany from September to June helping teach English in a German middle school. Outside of the classroom, Emily hopes to continue pursuing her senior thesis project by volunteering to work with Turkish immigrants and also take classes at the local university to learn the Turkish language. She is interested in multiculturalism and issues of immigration and problems facing minority groups in Germany. In addition to improving her German language skills, Emily hopes to make a contribution to German society as well as further her academic passions.
