Alliance of Latin American Students is an affinity group dedicated to facilitating open discussions about Latin American culture, creating a supportive space for Latino-identified students, and sponsoring culturally enriching events that are meant to engage students interested in the Latin American culture. Our mission is to inform the Haverford community about Latinx/Hispanic culture and identity through diverse perspectives. We hope to advocate for understanding of the diversity of the Latin American spectrum identifying the different cultures that it consists of. Our intended audience is to cater to those who are interested in learning about Latinx culture as well as spreading awareness across campus. We also hope to provide a niche for Latin American-identified students to talk about how their identity enriches their Haverford experience as well as what role it plays during their time here. Finally, current ALAS members will continue to discuss Latin American issues as well as issues that the Latinx population in the United States face as a way to apply the Haverford academic experience within ALAS meetings.
