"The purpose of this project was to compile a photo book as our graduation gift to Pan Asian Resource Center. The photo book included photos from all important PARC events, including the Grand Opening, My Name campaign, the recent Ken Liu event, etc. The photo book documented these events visually and illustrated the progression of PARC as an institution from day one till now. We wanted to celebrate the space of PARC and highlight the accomplishments as the last two members of the original group that petitioned for the space back in 2016." —Rebecca Chang ‘19

"The purpose of the mentorship dinner was to connect underclass and upperclass women with similar STEM interests, in order for them to make new friends and get advice about classes, majors, professors, and other general support.

The WIS email list was sent a google form in which they could RSVP for the dinner and state their intended major/STEM interests, or their declared major if they are an upperclass student. Mentors and mentees were seated at tables based on their mentorship pairings, as well as their STEM interests. We had a table for chemistry, one for bio, one for math/computer science, and one for biology/psychology. There were about 6 people per table. When each person arrived, they were able to grab food, which was catered from Tiffin, and then sit at their seat. Everyone ate and talked for about an hour. Each table had a page of ideas for topics to talk about, or they could simply talk about whatever they wished. After about an hour, we played a game of jeopardy with questions that we made beforehand relating to STEM at Haverford."—Blien Habtu ‘21

"This event looked to provide the student body with knowledge about how they might pursue a career in a competitive industry like the media and entertainment industry, and also provide them with knowledge about how to transform your passions or interests into a career. I hope that students walked away knowing how to stand out when looking for opportunities as well as how to stay true to themselves despite their career path. Tiffany Bender is a black woman and I asked her to speak about her identities as a woman and then a black woman in the industry during a dinner component prior to the event in a more personal setting and atmosphere. I think it is important to have such discussion because these conversations don't necessarily happen at typical career-related events that target the whole community."—Talia Scott ‘19

"The annual APHA conference brings together professionals from a wide variety of disciplines to discuss topics in public health. From professors and deans to surgeon generals, this conference gathers people who are passionate about changing our world for the better. The theme of this year’s conference was climate change, some of the sample sessions include: Public Health Law, Climate Change in Public Health Education and Public Health Practice, and Social Justice, Cancer, and African-American Men: Examining Exclusion and Implicit Bias.

We went to a student assembly on Friday and Saturday where we were able to network with other students and attend several presentations regarding climate change. The assembly also included several workshops to students navigate the conference and decide which sessions to attend. We went to the opening session on Sunday where the keynote speaker delivered a powerful speech about the effect of climate change on Native American populations. The session also included a surprise video message from John Lewis (D-GA) and an opening speech by Donald Hoppert, APHA's first African-American director of government relations. After the opening session, the public health expo opened. The expo consisted of presentations and representatives from graduate schools, public health organizations, NGOs, law centers, research labs, etc."—Faith Danglo ‘19

"The screening was meant to give members of the Haverford community a view of the Ferguson uprising made by activists on the ground, not outside media or politicians. We screened the movie, which was almost two hours long, and then many of the audience members stayed for another forty-five minutes to discuss the significance of the movie in relation to Haverford, especially in regards to how we can direct our activist and organizing efforts."—Ellis Maxwell ‘20

"The event was meant to represent and celebrate Haverford's history of activism. In an effort to honor many of the sacrifices made, it was also aimed to create some institutional memory around the history of activism. On a practical level it aimed to empower students with inspirational stories of activism and tools of examples of successful action that have taken place at Haverford. I hoped students would see the ways in which Haverford students have pushed one another and the institution to live their values and let their lives speak. I hope it would push them to think about how they would like to live their commitments to social justice as well as push Haverford to do the same.

I spent an hour and a half walking around campus talking about the history of activism at Haverford. I used the buildings to show where different protests had taken place. At the end, I took students back to ehaus where we had a debrief and snacks."—Rebecca Fisher ’18
