Libraries Research Awards
Each year, the Libraries recognize one junior with an award of $4,500 to support senior thesis research conducted over the summer prior to their senior year.
The application consists of a one-page summary of the project and a description of how the award will advance the student's research success. In addition to the essay, applicants should include the names of two faculty references, at least one of which must be from the applicant's major department. The Libraries announce a call for submissions at the start of the Spring semester, with an application deadline of March 15. Notifications occur by April 15.
In addition, the Libraries offer a research award for seniors during the fall semester to assist with their thesis research. This award provides $2,000 to support thesis research conducted during the remainder of their senior year. As above, applications consist of a one-page summary of the project and a description of how the award will advance the student's research success. In addition to the essay, applicants should include the names of two faculty references, at least one of which must be from the applicant's major department. The Libraries announce a call for submissions at the start of the fall semester, with an application deadline of October 31. Notifications occur by December 8.
For both awards, preference will be given to applications that describe how the funds will permit a research opportunity not otherwise possible, such as paying for travel to engage with primary source materials.
Upon graduation, both awardees are recognized as recipients of the Libraries Research Award in the Commencement Program and given a $500 gift.
