- About the Data
This detailed demographic information reflects the self-identified identities of our current community members, reported on an annual basis.
Please note:
- These reports are more detailed than federally-required standard IPEDS (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System) reports, which use a required logic that flattens and obscures detail when individuals select multiple identifications. These limited categories of race and ethnicity are determined by the federal government.
- Population (not identifications) is the base for percentages. Therefore, the columns could add to more than 100%, as an individual who has self-identified as both Latinx and Black/African American would be included in the counts for each group.
- Therefore, when interpreting the percentages listed in the tables, consider that x% of yGroup (Students/Faculty/Staff/All Employees) self-identify as z (racial/ethnic group). For example, 27.7% of all Students self-identify as Asian.
Student Race/Ethnicity Data
Of 1468 students enrolled in Fall 2022 (including those studying abroad), 47.3% identified as a student of color, and of the 1311 US Citizens/permanent residents, 43.7% identified as a student of color.

About the Data
- Three asterisks (***) indicate We've noted figures that are too small for responsible reporting. Our suppression rule requires that if an identification is less than 3% of a group and pertains to fewer than 10 individuals, that the data be suppressed to protect the identities and privacy of individuals.
- The figures in the Student tables (as of 11/1/2022) represent the multiple identifications provided by 1468 students, including 157 individuals who are “Non-Residents” (international).
- The figures in the Employees tables (as of 11/1/2022) represent the multiple identifications provided by 668 employees, including 17 individuals who are "Non-Residents" (international). Within the group of Staff employees, 261 are exempt and 199 are non-exempt.
- Important definitions:
- A Non Resident (NR) is a person who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporary basis and does not have the right to remain indefinitely. At Haverford, they are often referred to as “international”.
- Permanent Residents include resident aliens (and other eligible non-citizens). This group includes persons who are not a citizen or national of the United States but who have been admitted as a legal immigrant.
- Exempt and Non-Exempt are national classifications for employees. Non-exempt employees are protected by (are not exempt from) the provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act; they are paid by the hour worked and are eligible to earn overtime pay. Exempt employees are salaried, and are not eligible to earn overtime pay.
