Haverford College invites applications to our available full-time (40 hours per week), year-round, non-exempt, benefit-eligible Audio Visual Support Technician opportunity.
Reporting to the Director of Audio Visual Services (AVS), the Audio Visual Support Technician assists with the daily operations of the AVS department, which is responsible for the College’s classroom technology and technical support for College events, symposia, and conferences.
Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities
- College event, symposia, and conference support: schedules, staffs, sets up, and operates portable and installed audio-visual equipment, including computer/video projection equipment, sound reinforcement (public address) equipment, video and audio playback and recording equipment, and web conferencing and webcasting.
- Communication: processes and responds to client requests for technical assistance and event support received via phone, email, room scheduling system (EMS) and helpdesk ticketing system.
- Classroom and Audio Visual technologies support: assists faculty, administration, staff, and students with classroom AV equipment and systems, classroom capture and conferencing equipment, and help requests; maintains and troubleshoots classroom technology equipment and systems.
- Student employee scheduling: Schedules a staff of 10-12 work-study students to support college events and our equipment loan operation.
- AV system maintenance and repair: maintains, troubleshoots, and assists in the repair of classroom AV systems and equipment; performing routine maintenance of portable and installed AV equipment and systems to ensure proper operation, including classroom AV systems, computer projectors/video monitors, AV control systems (Extron/Crestron), projection screens, and public address equipment and systems.
- Work schedule: Although the normal work schedule is daily Monday through Friday, coinciding with the operating hours of the Haverford College Audio Visual Services department, this position requires occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work, as assigned, in order to provide support for college-organized events such as alumni weekend, commencement, conferences, and other special events that typically fall outside of the normal departmental operating hours.
- Other Duties: manages the daily operations of the AV Services department in the Director’s or the Classroom Technology Specialist’s absence; other responsibilities assigned as needed.
Line of Report: The Audio Visual Support Technician reports to the Director of Audio Visual Services, who reports to the Director of the Instructional Design and Technology Services (IDTS.) The Audio Visual Support Technician has no direct reports, but is responsible for student employee scheduling.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience
- One year experience in AV systems support or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Working knowledge/experience in audiovisual equipment and systems and their set-up, operation, and maintenance, including AV-integrated classrooms, its equipment, operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Understanding and willingness to become proficient in supporting IT networking, including AV over Internet Protocol (AVOIP) infrastructure.
- Experience in videography, audio recording, production and post-production, including digital video editing (Adobe Premier or similar).
- Experience with room scheduling software (EMS or equivalent).
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Basic computing skills with experience in Mac and PC platforms, tablets, laptops, and desktop hardware.
- Motivated to keep abreast of current AV technology standards.
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekend hours, as required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and effectively use tools requiring high dexterity.
Preferred Education, Training, and Experience
- Associate degree or certification in a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with Zoom or other web-based video conferencing environments, their configuration and use.
- Experience with Panopto or similar classroom capture software.

- Climbing (to ascend or descent heights using ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, inclined surfaces): Up to three hours
- Twisting (to rotate upper body while feet remain stationary): Up to three hours
- Driving (operating a motor vehicle, crane, tractor, forklift, etc.): Up to three hours
- Exposure Limitation (i.e., cold water, dust, gas, fumes, extreme temperatures): Up to three hours
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record Check is.
- Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 153 Child Abuse background clearances.
