Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (37.5 hours per week), exempt, benefits-eligible Assistant Director of Alumni and Family Engagement opportunity.
The Assistant Director of Alumni and Family Engagement supports and implements affinity program strategy, management, and expansion, and creates and manages alumni and family programming in the service of building relationships and strengthening philanthropic support for Haverford. The Assistant Director will also act as the departmental liaison to the Vice President for Institutional Equity and Access.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support alumni affinity volunteer leadership in developing and managing event programs for affinity groups, such as Multicultural Alumni Action Group, Rainbow Quorum, and Sustainable Fords; create new affinity groups as needed; and serve as the departmental liaison to the Vice President for Institutional Equity and Access
- Develop and manage alumni and family programs, with a clear goal of advancing broad representation and participation of all Haverford constituents, plus showcasing the value of inclusion in current and new programs
- Develop strategies to engage alumni, families, and other constituents with Haverford College and with one another
- Create and implement a matrix of rotating student activity affinity reunions and link them closely with existing student organizations
- Collaborate with and promote Annual Giving and other Haverford giving priorities, including campaign priorities, including the creation of donor pathways for affinity groups by promoting fundraising opportunities
- Partner with other Institutional Advancement colleagues on cross-departmental programming
- Help maintain all digital and data systems, including but not limited to the Haverford website, Haverford Connect alumni platform, departmental calendars, social media, event and email applications, and the Raisers Edge database
- Act as a staff representative at events, including evening and weekend programs
- Participate in professional development opportunities, including cross-training with other staff
- Specific projects and affinity group responsibilities are subject to change, and may shift at any time due to evolving institutional priorities, staffing transitions, or other reasons
Line of Report: The Assistant Director of Alumni and Family Engagement reports to the Director of Alumni and Family Engagement. This position has no direct reports.
Work Location: This position will be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, pursuant to the College’s Work Location Policy.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree
Professional Competencies
- Ability to think strategically and creatively in a collaborative environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including proofreading and editing
- Technological proficiency, including familiarity with spreadsheets and databases (Raisers Edge preferred), and capacity to learn new applications
- Deadline driven with the ability to manage and track multiple, concurrent activities and projects
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to handle confidential materials and situations with sensitivity, tact, and discretion
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- One or more years of volunteer management, program development, alumni relations, or advancement experience
- Knowledge of fundraising and annual giving
- Familiarity with higher education and a liberal arts setting
Special Requirements
- Motor Vehicle Record Check: Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check is required
- Evening and weekend work required; occasional overnight travel possible
