Haverford, Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore colleges are cooperating to offer a Tri-College Environmental Studies Interdisciplinary Minor, involving departments and faculty from the natural sciences, the social sciences, the humanities and the arts.

The Strawbridge Observatory at Haverford College houses 12-inch and 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes which are actively used by students in Haverford astronomy classes.

Magill Library houses more than half a million volumes and provides access to 2.5 million more through a catalog system that connects it to libraries at neighboring Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore Colleges.

Haverford’s three academic Centers shape daily life at the College, by invigorating the arts on campus, supporting cutting-edge research and inspiring students on issues across the globe.

Every year, dozens of scholars, artists and scientists come to campus through our Distinguished Visitors Program. Their lectures, classroom visits and workshops enhance and supplement the core curriculum.

Through funding from the KINSC’s travel stipend program, Katie Sheline ’13 was able to join Environmental chemist Helen White as part of a team of scientists on a research cruise that studied the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Rufus M. Jones Institute for Leadership encourages students to utilize the diverse resources on-campus, in the surrounding communities, and around the world to build the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to become positive change agents in our increasingly global society.
