Recently released results of the Planck space telescope’s sky survey are giving us a whole new picture of the universe. Classics major Ben Walter ’13 has been working with Emeritus Professor of Astronomy Bruce Partridge to sharpen scientists’ reports on the game-changing data.
Artist and illustrator Maxfield Parrish, Class of 1892, already showed great promise while a student here, as evidenced by his fabulously illustrated chemistry notebook. The notebook is part of the Maxfield Parrish Collection, which includes letters, manuscripts, original sketches and drawings, and other items.

We welcome admitted students and their families to campus to give them a taste of the Haverford experience.
Upgraded facilities, state-of-the-art strength training and other enhancements have helped Haverford’s teams post impressive results in recent years. But the true measure of success for Athletics is reflected in how well the program allows students to excel in both sports and academics.
The Army Specialized Training Program (or A.S.T.P.) included basic engineering, foreign area and language studies, which were taught at Haverford in 1943 and 1944, as part of the program to add non-combatant service students during World War II.
The English department offers courses in the literary traditions of the English-speaking world. The department aims to develop in its students the ability to respond to texts thoughtfully and critically, and to articulate those responses in clear and fluent English.
Fords enjoy myriad traditional events such as the Collection speaker series; pinwheel day; the annual weekend throwdown at the end of the year called Haverfest; and, most importantly, Fall and Spring Plenary.
Virtually all our Physics & Astronomy majors engage in cutting-edge research, working closely with faculty in fields such as biophysics, quantum computers, cosmology, quantum gravity, fluid dynamics, nanoscience and extra-galactic astronomy.
In February, the Baltimore band Chiffon played for students in the basement of Lunt, which is home to a student-run café and a performance space that hosts the Federation United Concert Series.
