The Campus

Our campus has 200 acres of award-winning architecture and landscaping; more than 50 academic, athletic, and residential buildings; and a nationally recognized arboretum with 400 species of trees and shrubs, a 3.5-acre duck pond, gardens, and wooded areas.

The arboretum renewal program reached its goal of planting 300 trees on campus by the end of 2019. The 300th tree planted this year by the arboretum staff is a dawn redwood (Metasequoia) and can be found by the Walton Road entrance to the campus. Photo: Patrick Montero.

Maker Arts Space

The Maker Arts Space in VCAM houses an array of high-tech devices, such as a 3D printer, a laser cutter, and a 3D scanner, as well as lots of design software.

Bella Merchant BMC '21 and Rasaaq Shittu ‘23 helped make 3D-printed prosthetic hands with a member of E-Nable, an international volunteer organization that provides 3D-printed prosthetics to those in need. Current students can apply for the inaugural Design + Making Collaborative with E-Nable, which will take place on campus this summer.. Photo: Kent Watson.

French & Francophone Studies

The Department of French and Francophone Studies lays the foundation for an understanding and appreciation of French language and culture through the literature and the history of French arts, thought, and institutions.

Students from Kathryne Corbin's "Intermediate French" class study different volumes of the Encyclopédie ou Dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers, par une Société de Gens de lettres. The text was published under the direction of Diderot and d'Alembert, with 17 volumes of text and 11 volumes of plates between 1751 and 1772. Photo: Patrick Montero.

Bicentennial City

Bicentennial City

Through March 20, 2020
Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery

The Bicentennial in Philadelphia laid bare some of the most pressing questions of America’s national identity. Five Haverford and Bryn Mawr College students collaborated with poet Thomas Devaney and Greenhouse Media to explore this surreal moment in Philadelphia and national history through an experimental documentary film. The exhibition Bicentennial City continues that project as an interactive installation with multi-channel projections, sculptures, and Bicentennial ephemera, seeking to explore the many roles that myth and memory play in the psyche of a city. The exhibition Bicentennial City grows out of the Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities and VCAM’s Summer 2019 DocuLab project, The Bicentennial in Philadelphia.

The Barrel Fires Wake to the American Dream

The Barrel Fires didn’t start at Haverford, but it was school ties that brought band members Jay Carlis ’99, Mike Kay ’00, and Josh Meyer ’98 together to play original music and have fun doing it.

Read "Mixed Media: Music" from the Fall 2019 issue of Haverford Magazine.
