Astronomy at Haverford

This homepage ran on Thursday, February 27, 2020. Content and links may have changed.

The astronomy major is a good fit for students who want an in-depth education in astronomy that can be applied to a range of careers. Our faculty work at the cutting edge of modern astronomy and cosmology, creating exceptional research opportunities for majors.

Coaching a Championship Team

Head coach Bruce Berque ’88 led the University of Texas men’s tennis team to the program’s first national championship.

Read "Coaching a Championship Team" from the Fall 2019 issue of Haverford Magazine.

“Teams with best cultures have been player-driven," said Berque. "That was my goal and it worked out.”

Plenary

Plenary is a critical mechanism for student self-governance at Haverford College. Students gather to raise, discuss, and debate issues on campus. Resolutions passed by the Students’ Association are viewed as the will of the body, and Students’ Council is then tasked with the carrying out and upholding of any changes or initiatives.

This semester’s iteration of Haverford’s long-standing tradition celebrating self-governance focused on resolutions addressing sustainability, environmental justice, and student agency. Photo: Dex Coen Gilbert '21.
