  • Shoki Kawasaki ’26 receiving IPPA award

    Congratulations to Shoki Kawasaki ’26, who received 3rd prize in the IPPA Conero International Music Festival  In Recanati, Italy this summer in the Professional Artists Category (age 18-32) (ippafestival.com/competition/).

    Shoki was also a co-winner of the 2023 Annual Bi-College Concerto Competition and will perform the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 on Friday, November 17 with the Haverford-Bryn Mawr College Orchestra under the direction of Heidi Jacob.  He is a student of Anna Kislitsyna.

  • Steven Pei, Shoki Kawasaki, and Eliza Ellis with their teacher, pianist Anna Kislitsyna.

    Three piano students - Steven Pei (HC), Shoki Kawasaki (HC), and Eliza Ellis (BMC) - won first place awards at the Triumph Music Festival this past weekend in Paoli, PA. They all study with Haverford's affiliate artist Anna Kislitsyna.

    Jacob's Metamorphosis I for Viola and Piano has been released on PARMA Recordings CD BOWED COLORS 2 on Navona Records.

     Soprano Lisa Wilson DeNofo and Cellist Michal Schmidt perform Jacob's Rosetta Stone for Soprano, Cello, and Piano on April 20, 7:30 pm at Temple University, Rock Hall.

     

  • Voices of Earth and Air, works for chorus, volume IV

    Heidi Jacob's new composition "Lilacs" is featured on the newly released CD by Navona Records VOICES OF EARTH AND AIR VOL. 4, a choral celebration of the human commonality we find within music. Brought to life by Prague’s Kühn Choir, these choral works are sure to entrance and entice listeners with flowing tonality and tactful text settings that demonstrate the powerful storytelling capabilities of vocal music.  

  • Congratulations to Bianca Teves and Margin Zheng who were winners and played beautifully at the Keyboard Companions Festival at Downingtown (PA) on May 21st, and to Andrew Johanningsmeier, piano, won first place in the Spring 2022 Red Maple Music Competition in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

    All three Haverford students study with Dr. Anna Kislitsyna.

  • Where are they now?  Gracia Zhao, Chen Zhou, Mattias Lundberg, Matthew Ludwig, Mason Emmert, Samuel Walter, Andrew Burke, Bruce Leto, Ben Weissman, Alisa Seavey.

  • On Saturday, April 2 at 1 PM, over 100 students from Play On Philly and the Haverford-Bryn Mawr College Orchestra performed on the Marshall Auditorium stage in celebration of their work together this year. 

  • Students from the Haverford Department of Music - Aidan Bannan HC'24, Helen Christ BMC'24, and Serene Kombargi BMC'24, and Gabriela Godin HC'23 - competed at the National Association of Teachers of Singing Eastern Region Auditions at Temple University on March 4-6.

     

  • Nathan Zullinger

    On Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m., Nathan Zullinger conducts "The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed" by Joel Thompson with Singing City Choir.  This Winter Concert entitled "Let's Walk Together" will be held at the Philadelphia Episcopal Cathedral, 13 N. 38th Street, Philadelphia, PA.  For more information: singingcity.org/

    VIVA VOCE CHAMBER SINGERS, Nathan Zullinger, music director, is the winner of The American Prize ERNST BACON MEMORIAL AWARD for the Performance of American Music, 2021, in the professional large ensemble division, for their recording of the music of Curt Cacioppo. 

  • On Sunday, September 26 at 3 PM, the Department of Music at Haverford College presented  Music & Conversation with REVOLUTION WINDS.

  • Heidi Jacob My Sister Hali

    Professor Heidi Jacob and her husband, Charles Abramovic, have been recognized for music they wrote for Paul Seriff’s documentary film MY SISTER HALI. In December the documentary was chosen as one of the top 25 documentaries in the UK International Festival, and last month the Latitude Film Awards honored the film with a bronze award in 3 categories: documentary, trailer and music.  In May 2021, Doctors without Borders gave them two awards, including an Exceptional Merit Award for the poetic music by Charles Abramovic, Heidi Jacob, and Jeffrey Solow.
