Public Engagement: 8th Dimension
8th Dimension is Haverford's community service office.
It was established in 1978 by a group of students and alumni who believed that service and experiential learning were an equally vital component of a Haverford education. 8th Dimension performs many community service oriented services among them the Street Outreach Project providing food distribution for the homeless in Philadelphia. In tandem with Habitat for Humanity, Haverford students rebuild physical structures for those having overcome with floods, tornadoes and other catastrophic events. 8th Dimension also provides one-on-one free tutoring for children in areas where additional academic assistance is needed. Approximately 600 (total student body 1,177) students participate in 8th Dimension which is supported by the College budget.
