The Department of French and Francophone Studies shares its program with its counterpart at Bryn Mawr College. The purpose of the major in French is to lay the foundation for an understanding and appreciation of French and Francophone cultures.
Course offerings are intended to serve both those with particular interest in French literature, literary theory and criticism, as well as those with particular interest in French and French-speaking countries from the perspective of history, culture, arts and political science.

Robbie Spratt '21 had an essay included in the Columbia Journal of Literary Criticism’s 2021 issue, Intimacy, released in June 2021. This article, somewhat adapted from their French thesis, focuses on what Guillaume Dustan and Dans ma chambre can teach us about queer intimacy and the new COVID-19 lifestyle to which we have all adapted.
