First-Generation/Low Income Students
Horizons (Academic Year Programming for all FGLI students)
Horizons (formerly MSP) is a student-run networking program dedicated to the goal of academic excellence.
Student coordinators from Haverford Horizons Leadership Institute, Chesick Scholars, Fords' Firsts and QuestBridge Scholars programs, in collaboration with faculty and deans, plan community-building social events and workshops designed to communicate the wisdom and experience of upperclass-persons to new students. Open to all students in all disciplines, Horizons programming is tailored especially for students who are underrepresented, first in their families to attend college, or under-resourced.

Hey y’all! I’m Erica (she/hers), a junior born and raised in Queens, New York majoring in Anthropology with a double minor in Visual Studies and English. Around campus, I am always excited to talk about your ideas at the Writing Center, gossip over the counter at the Coop, or snack and destress at the OAR. I've taken different classes about social movements, filmmaking, and media and even tried skateboarding, step, and volleyball. I would love to talk about how to explore new interests and have fun both in and out of class. You can also find me at the Womxn of Color House with a bunch of other cool folks, where you're always welcome to come practice self-care with some face masks, join a dance party, or binge a TV show. Over the past two years, Horizons has been my favorite part of my time here and, although the next few years are new and intimidating, I'm excited to meet y'all and get through it together with as much joy and community as possible!

My name is Aszana López-Bell (she/her) and I'm an International Studies Major and Global Asia Studies Minor from Baltimore, MD. Outside of my major I'm interested in language learning, fashion design and sewing, and on campus I'm a part of the BSL(Black Students' League), ALAS (Alliance of Latin American Students) and the new Womxn of Color House. I was a participant in Horizons my first year and have been an HSRP ever since, so I'm super excited to do Horizons for my last year. I look forward to meeting all of you and I hope we can make great memories together!

Hello everyone! My name is Zakiyyah (she/her) and I am a rising junior from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, a suburb within the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. I am a Chesick and QuestBridge Scholar pursuing a Biology major and Health Studies minor on the Pre-Med track. I am currently involved in the BSL (Black Student League), MAST (Mentoring and Student Teaching), and working at the Lutnick Library and Office of Academic Resources (OAR). I’m always down to talk—especially about music or crafts such as cross stitching or knitting. I’m really excited to meet each and every one of you and can’t wait to help you with your transition to Haverford.
