Today, photography is appreciated as medium with a distinguished history that has influenced other art forms. This was not the case when Thomas H. Garver, graduated from Haverford College in 1956. His interest in photography was to become a focal point of his career as a curator and art historian began on the Haverford Campus when he met O. Winston Link who had been hired to photograph, the faculty, grounds and buildings.

Tom Garver, has been a generous donor who has given to Haverford beginning with O. Winston Link and continuing through Charles Currier, anonymous 19th Century vernacular photographs to modern masters including Brett Weston, Art Sinsabaugh and Bill Dane. These groupings of individual photographs and collections of photographs by Link, Currier, Dane and others constitute a history of photography, as it was being discovered and reinvigorated during one of the most fertile periods of its history 50 years ago in which Tom Garver played an important role.
