Curated by the members of Professor Jess Libow's spring 2024 first-year writing seminar, "Health and the Humanities"

This exhibit documents the complex history of nineteenth century mental health care using letters, asylum records, medical treatises, and patient accounts from Haverford College’s Quaker & Special Collections. The exhibit includes information on psychiatric care, the structures that surround and influence the operation of mental health institutions, and the evolution of mental health care while foregrounding patient
experiences as much as possible.
