Chef Shelton Bell
Get to Know Our Chefs!
Mr. Bell, as he is affectionately called by all of his co-workers at Haverford College, was born in Hartsville, South Carolina. In 1961 Shelton’s family moved to North Philadelphia where he attended public school.
Mr. Bell began his training as a chef working at a variety of jobs including Stouffers and Jefferson College. He then spent fourteen years working at the Famous Deli of Society Hill. Mr. Bell reminisces joyfully about the many famous people that he met including Denzel Washington, Phyllis Hyman, many well known politicians, and even some of local mobsters. Mr. Bell started working at Haverford College in 1995 and has spent the past thirteen years making students his famous baked spaghetti pie and potato pancakes along with many of the regular dinner menu items.
Mr. Bell is a creative person who enjoys the arts and music. He played drums and the piano in a band at the Uptown Theater in the 1960s. He believes in eating healthy as much as possible however he will not turn down sweets when offered.
Shelton Bell is a great asset to the students of Haverford College.
