Six From Class of 2013 Named Haverford House Fellows

The Center for Peace and Global Citizenship (CPGC) has named the 2012-2013 Haverford House Fellows. The six graduating seniors, who were selected for the fellowship because of their commitment to social justice and community action, will spend the next year working four days per week with non-profit organizations in the Philadelphia region and sharing a house together in the West Philadelphia neighborhood of Cedar Park. The fellows will dedicate their fifth workday to projects that serve to engage the College with local groups and people devoted to creating a more socially just, healthy and vibrant community. Haverford House Fellows serve as liaisons between the CPGC and social action agencies and as collaborators with Haverford students, staff and faculty.

The 2013-2014 Haverford House Fellows and their host organizations are:

Jemma Benson, an anthropology major, will be a Hacia El Futuro fellow at Puentes de Salud.

Hannah Brower, a psychology major, will work as a research and advocacy fellow at the Center for Hunger-Free Communities at the Drexel University School of Public Health.

Bridget Gibbons, a political science major, will work as a housing unit paralegal, at Community Legal Services.

Sumin Park, a chemistry major, will be a case management and outreach fellow at Project H.O.P.E.

Michael Riccio, a sociology major, will work as an employment paralegal at Community Legal Services.

Benjamin Van Son, a psychology major, will be a refugee housing and basic needs coordinator at HIAS Pennsylvania.
