The Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility working group was established in 2015 as a recommendation of the Civic Engagement sub-committee of the Institutional Effectiveness committee.
It is chaired by Janice Lion, and makes recommendations to the Provost and the Dean of the College. The group’s work is funded by IEEL for 2015-16 to pursue two primary goals:
- To develop a CESR blueprint which suits Haverford’s unique needs and assets, incorporates community organizations’ needs and perspectives, and works toward the sustainability of the coordination and support for curricular and co-curricular civic engagement endeavors beyond May 2016.
- To increase the capacity of faculty to offer robust CESR courses in collaboration with community partners. The group reviews proposals and distributes funding to faculty who are incorporating a practical or experiential component into coursework that will enhance learning while encouraging ethical civic participation.
The CESR Council for 2015-16 includes: Janice Lion, Kelly Cleary, Kaye Edwards, Theresa Tensuan and Fran Blase.
