Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitments
Haverford College is dedicated to the co-creation of a more inclusive, equitable, and just community for all of its members.
This site serves as a progress report on diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism actions organized into four central areas: student experience, academic program, community life, and faculty and staff recruitment, retention, and development.
This work requires the commitment and involvement of every College organizational unit, as well as every individual student, staff, and faculty member. This report offers the current status of more than 60 initiatives from 2020 and 2021 that were raised through student activism in 2020, developed in tandem with such activism, or developed independently of student activism.
I would like to thank the many community members who have already contributed to this work, including Black Students Refusing Further Inaction (BSRFI), Women of Color House, Black Students’ League, Alliance of Latin American Students (ALAS), as well as faculty, staff, students, and alumni across Haverford generations. I note for special recognition the efforts of the student groups listed here, because their efforts brought to the forefront issues that have often remained underlying, unrecognized, and/or forgotten. The student-led community statements, calls-to-action, and actions of summer and fall 2020 were (and remain) vital and contemporary expressions of the longstanding Haverford ideals of trust, concern, and respect. It is true that the College has not always lived up to those standards, even as we aspire to meet them; it is also true that whatever progress is made, there is (and will always be) a need to do better. — Wendy Raymond, President
The content of this report also forms the basis of a new, web-based record of goals and outcomes. Toward systemic and sustained progress, dialog, accountability, and transparency, this new website will include future updates about these initiatives, and it will introduce and track new actions.
