CAPS will explore strategies for facilitating student access to therapeutic services, including the suggestion to reserve specific hours for LGBTQ+ identified students.
Developments & Updates
The Spring 2022 CAPS Newsletter, authored by the Student CAPS Liaisons, details the continuing group opportunities (including those that focus on LGBTQ+ individuals, living with anxiety, and first-generation/low-income students). The newsletter also describes strategies for enabling speedy access to services, including daily drop-in opportunities, and single session appointments.
As noted in a Fall 2021 update on CAPS hires and programs, CAPS offers a psychotherapy group specific for LGBTQ+ individuals.
The Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) has reached out to students to engage in dialogue that will allow students and CAPS an opportunity to articulate and understand resources and needs, and remains open to further suggestions and conversation. CAPS remains committed to working to ensure good therapeutic fits with students and enable them agency as best as possible in selecting a therapist. However, it is not practical for our students or counseling staff to reserve specific hours for certain student groups.
