Additional Course Info | Class Number: 2511 This course excavates a remarkable genealogy of African American Muslim humor that both shatters the stereotypical image of the ‘cheerful black man’ and exposes the admirable struggles of contemporary African American comedians. We will read philosophical works on humor and comedy, the history of Islam and slavery in the US and the Americas, and a range of works addressing laughter and foolery.
